Shannon Boase, Founder & CEO, Earthcycle Packaging Ltd.

With over 20 years of experience successfully commercializing ideas and technologies in the Asia Pacific region, Shannon Boase is a proven senior international business executive. Her specialties are developing and orchestrating the fine details of bringing ideas to market, including operations, branding, marketing, communications, and talent management.

As president and founder of Earthcycle Packaging Ltd., a Vancouver-based company specializing in home compostable product packaging, Shannon has positioned herself as a leader in bringing environmentally responsible packaging alternatives to the North American market.

Prior to Earthcycle’s start-up, Shannon worked with the Malaysian Government from May 2002 to July 2004, helping to bring palm fiber usage to market. Her work in Asia paved the way for Shannon’s entrance into the alternative packaging market in North America.

Shannon has earned an MBA in Technology and Innovation from the Theseus Institute in France, a Graduate Diploma in Asian Studies from the McRae Institute of International Management at Capilano University, and a Bachelor of Business Administration (Marketing) from Simon Fraser University.

Shannon is conversationally fluent in Thai and, when time allows, moonlights as a travel writer for specialty publications. She is also an avid ocean kayaker, cyclist and yoga student.

Bob Harper, CFO, Earthcycle Packaging Ltd.

Bob is a banker and entrepreneur. After working with a chartered bank for 8 years, he created his own merchant bank for SMEs where he arranged close to $200 million in financing. He now offers CFO level services to a number of start-up ventures. He is a director of the Vancouver Aquarium, a director of the Vancouver Economic Development Commission, and Mentor with New Ventures BC, a seed capital start-up competition.

Scott McDougall, President & CEO TerraChoice Group Inc.

Scott McDougall is the President and Chief Executive Officer of TerraChoice Group Inc, North America’s premier environmental marketing company.

Scott is widely known as an environmental writer and industry expert. He is the author of the Sins of Greenwashing reports, which have been instrumental in garnering mass media attention including TV appearances on Canada AM, Business Week, CBC, CNBC; coverage in publications such as The New York Times, The Economist, Newsweek, and Fast Company as well as the UK’s The Guardian and BBC. Scott is a frequent public speaker before audiences in the environmental and business communities around the world and has recently concluded two speaking tours in Australia.

Scott is a Director of the Ryan’s Well Foundation and a Member of the Advisory Board to Earthcycle Packaging Inc. He is a biologist by education and has devoted his career to management and marketing in the environmental field. He lives in Chelsea, Quebec, with his wife and two sons.

David Nelson, Chairman, Nelson International

For over 40 years, David has created, operated, listed and profitably sold a range of businesses in trading, advanced materials, manufacturing, food and beverage, mining and financial services.

David’s talents are bringing seasoned wisdom, gentle guidance and humour to the many challenges of setting up and running an entrepreneurial venture.

Dr. Dave Edelman, President, Practical Analytical Solutions

Dave is a Pulp and Paper Technology Specialist with extensive experience in environmental testing and new product development. For the past eight years, he has been the Principal and Technical Director of Practical Analytical Solutions, consulting primarily to the pulp and paper industry. In this role, David reviews materials and additives in products for FDA compliance, directs testing and review of results for regulatory or customer programs, and performs process review of data and testing protocol to troubleshoot product contamination issues. In addition, he assists in submitting applications to Health Canada for acceptance under Section B.23.001 of the Food and Drugs Act and Regulations dealing with the potential transfer of harmful chemicals to food.

David holds a Ph.D. in Forest Resources, a M.S. in Organic Chemistry and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Washington, Seattle.

Richard Boase, P.Geo., Consultant

Richard has specialized in environmental geology for 20 years completing and supervising work in the fields of contaminated sites, water and soil investigations and pollution prevention. His most recent work has been in the field of integrated resource management focusing on watershed assessment and restoration. He has participated in numerous graduate research projects investigating a wide variety of topics, including heavy metal contamination of urban runoff, to hydrological quantification of urban tree canopies. As a passionate outdoor enthusiast, he has a deep understanding and commitment to promoting a wider application of the notion that everything we do should have a restorative component to it.
